“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
George Santayana

Welcome to the website of the Poppies and Daffodils Association.
We are based in Bordeaux, France.
We believe that understanding the past and the world wars is essential to building a peaceful future.
Through our work, we preserve the memory of the major conflicts that have shaped history – from the Franco-Prussian War to the Second World War – while reflecting on the lessons they offer us in facing today’s challenges.
Our mission is simple:
To keep memory alive by organising educational visits to places of remembrance and sharing the stories of those who shaped history.
To support and honour veterans and their families, so their contribution is never forgotten.
To inspire peace by raising awareness among today’s generations of the values of solidarity and international cooperation.
In a world where tensions persist, these actions take on their full meaning. Preserving memory is a way to help prevent the mistakes of the past from being repeated.
Thank you for joining us in keeping this memory alive and promoting a future of understanding and hope.
Our Objectives
To promote awareness of historical conflicts
The Poppies and Daffodils Association strives to raise public awareness about the wars involving France, particularly the two World Wars

To enhance international cooperation
We value the importance of unity among nations, as illustrated by the intervention of Allied forces during past conflicts. By promoting international solidarity, we aim to strengthen ties between countries, encourage peace, and foster cooperation. Our programmes seek to demonstrate how unity and collaboration can make a difference in resolving conflicts.
To keep alive the memory of past sacrifices
Our website serves as a learning platform with two main goals:
Sharing knowledge through the publication of research, personal stories, and historical articles.
Organising educational visits to memorial sites in France and across Europe.
These events are designed for young people, students, apprentices, teachers, and professionals in the fields of youth work, culture, and defence.
Participants are offered a unique opportunity to engage with history through direct experience, reflection, and dialogue. The aim is to deepen understanding of past conflicts and highlight the importance of remembrance in building a peaceful future.

To remember and honour those who suffered under Nazism and perished in the Holocaust
We support educational initiatives that aim to honour the victims of Nazism and the Holocaust.
By working in partnership with museums and research centres, we promote tolerance and respect for human rights in order to help prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Our activities include conferences, exhibitions, and educational projects.
To stand with wounded veterans and active-duty soldiers
We provide help and support to soldiers injured in recent conflicts.
In partnership with specialised organisations, we contribute to reintegration efforts and therapeutic activities for veterans.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life of those who have served their country with courage.

To coordinate educational mobility programmes
To raise awareness among young Europeans about the importance of remembrance, we organise educational trips to sites of memory.
These trips include guided tours, educational workshops, and meetings with experts.
They offer a rich and immersive experience in history.
To train teachers, trainers, and young people
We offer training programmes led by specialists for teachers, trainers, and professionals in the fields of youth work, culture, and the armed forces.
These courses aim to develop skills and teaching tools for addressing the history of wars and their consequences.
Participants work together to create innovative educational resources for use in their own institutions.
To support mobility programmes for members of the armed forces
We organise mobility programmes for military professionals across Europe and beyond.
These programmes include language courses, historical visits, and exchanges with fellow military personnel.
Participants have the opportunity to improve their French while discovering sites of remembrance throughout Europe, especially in France.

To recognise the contribution of animals during wartime
We raise public awareness about the crucial role animals played during armed conflicts, particularly during the two World Wars.
Through dedicated publications, we highlight their contribution and pay tribute to these loyal companions who played a vital part in times of war.
To promote therapies involving the support of animals
We highlight the important role animals play in supporting individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress.
By raising awareness of the effectiveness of animal-assisted therapies, we aim to improve the quality of life of veterans and survivors.
Our publications and initiatives are dedicated to promoting these therapeutic approaches.
